How to keep raccoons out of my garden You spent your summer making the most garden. Your tomatoes look incredible. Your watermelon is begging you to eat it. The carrots are crisp and fantastic and the peas are things of beauty. You have labored and worked all summer long to create this vegetable and fruit feast, then it happens. You come outside to find that a raccoon or group of raccoons have gotten into your garden and have destroyed your beautiful fruits and vegetables. You are outraged and just beyond anger.

Maybe this has never happened to you before, but if you have a garden and raccoons are near your area then you can be sure that it will be inevitable at some point. These animals see your garden as an incredible source of food, and when they find it they will keep returning.

So what does Westerville animal control do to keep them out? Here are some suggestions for you.

Most people simply put chicken wire around the garden. To a raccoon that is like putting a piece of paper in front of a person as a means of keeping them out of the cookie jar. Just won’t work. You need a sturdy fence that is at least four feet high, to keep them from climbing over the top and getting in.

The fence must also be at least 12 inches below the ground.
